Gender and Human Rights
Gender equality is a fundamental condition for the full enjoyment of human rights by women and men, and promoting gender equality worldwide is a global priority. Using the frame work on gender equality provided in CEDAW – Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women, women’s organizations in many countries are in the process of reviewing and amending laws to achieve gender equality.
Women all over the world, confront many violations of their human rights – unable to participate in the decisions that affect their lives or claim fair political representation, face discrimination in employment, denial of entitlement to land and property, or when they suffer violence within their own home. Other obstacles to rights arise when women and girls are prevented from going to school or attaining health care, or are subject to harmful traditional practices.
EKTA is engaged in trainings on human rights at various levels with special focus on:
- CEDAW
- Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act-2005 (PWDVA)
- Right to information Act (RTI)
- Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights (SRHR)
- Sexual Harassment at Workplace
Our trainings aim to create awareness and strengthen the capacities of women to review the existing legal provisions and to advocate for necessary changes.
